Chances are you’ve never engaged in writing coaching before. So you’re probably wondering how the process works, right?
Writing a book can be hard enough, so my goal is to make things simple. Here’s the low-down and what to expect.
- We begin by signing a Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement. Basically the document says that neither of us will disclose information we learn from each other during the coaching process or after.
- Next, I have you fill out a Coaching Prep Questionnaire. This document helps me get to know you a little better, how your mind works, what motivates you, etc. Please be honest with your answers and take your time. There are no right or wrong answers—just your answers. This information will help me tailor my approach so you get the most value out of our relationship.
- After that, you receive your first assignment. This is where we set the foundation for your book. In this assignment you’ll answer questions about your audience and their pain points, and you’ll get a jump on distilling your book down to its one main message. The instructions in the assignment are detailed and contain examples. So don’t worry. I’ll also ask you to do some research on other books in your niche.
- Once these initial documents are complete, we’ll have our first coaching session. For the first few weeks we’ll work on clarifying and narrowing down the answers in your first assignment, as well as creating your book’s detailed outline. This outline is not like the cryptic outlines you may have created in school. These are DETAILED outlines (think 20+ pages). I know that may sound like overkill now, but when you start writing, you’ll be amazed at how easily and quickly writing occurs when you have a solid base like this.
- We’ll end each session with you having a solid plan and goals for the week.
- At least 24 hours before our next session you’ll need to send me whatever documents/writing you’ve committed to completing. I’ll review them before our meeting.
- At the next meeting I’ll give you feedback and guidance on what you’ve done, make sure you’re on track for your next goals, and give you your marching orders for the week.
- Rinse and repeat this process until your book is complete in 6 short months. (Yes, if you follow my process, most people complete their manuscript in 6 months.)
- As needed, I’ll give you the motivational pushes you need to keep going.
- Missed a deadline? I’ll give you the kick in the pants (or the gentle nudge, depending on what works best for you) to make sure you get back on track quickly.
After the 6 months:
- Once your manuscript is complete, we can move into editing. We’ll discuss your options for that.
- After editing, the book is ready for design and formatting. I can hook you up with the best of the best in the business.
- Next it’s on to the publishing phase. I can walk you through the various options and platforms. If that’s too much for your plate, I can set everything up on your behalf.
- Once your book is published, it’s time to market and sell it. I’ll help you create a strategy that positions your book to your target audience and helps you grow your business.
So there you have it.
If want to make serious, consistent progress on your book, this is what you need.
